SUNDAY SCHOOL TRAINING CLIFF NOTES
AUGUST , 2011
I know that many of you could not go to the Sunday School Clinic on August 27. I am made some notes from two of the sessions that I thought might help you as you plan for the new year.
Email, Facebook, and Websites as Effective SS Tools was presented by Scott Vaughn from Lexington BC. He discussed practical tips for using technology as a ministry tool.
1. The average age for using the web is 45. Most adults use cell phones, email , facebook, or the web. It makes sense that churches would want to utilize these, too.
2. Some are hesitant to invite others to SS, but they can share with them your church or SS Class website or Facebook page/group or send them an email.
3. Internet is a great way to share prayer requests.
4. Facebook: groups are free and easy to open. Invite the lost to be your “friend” or join your group, or send them and email inviting them to events. The link is fb.com/groups
Middle adults and young adults want to be in the communication loop and many use facebook. Communication drives most everything we do.
5. Emails are usually checked early morning and evening. Send your reminders for SS early morning or set it to be delivered early morning. Unfortunately, statistics show that the decision to attend SS and church are made at the last minute. The email really helps in making that decision.
6. If the adults do not come, they usually do not bring the children.
7. Emails can also be used by the teacher to send the class the cliff notes of the lesson, upcoming events, or prayer requests.
8. Websites can be set up for your church or class for less than $50 and cost as little as $5 per month to publish.
9. Great way to publish upcoming events, sermons, pictures, ev materials, ministry opportunities, etc.
10. Vpray.com is another tool. Publish the prayer request, sends email to members, and keep up with the status.
11. You can also put links to helpful resources: bible study, bible reading plans, missions opportunities, etc.
12. http://www.youtube.com/ can be used for sermons and Skype could even be used for sick members.
Don’t be bashful to use new tools for the cause of Christ. Blessings, Ron
